WHY YOUR RESTAURANT SHOULD FOCUS ON INTERNATIONAL MEDIA

By Mikkel Noa Klein, Press & PR Manager, Wonderful Copenhagen

The international media is perfectly aware that Copenhagen is one of the greatest gastronomical capitals of the world. Newspapers and magazines from all over the world are very interested in telling fascinating, inspiring, and mouthwatering stories about the gastronomical scene of Copenhagen – and your restaurant can benefit if you understand why, it is important to work with international media.

Here are five reasons why you should make an effort to get your restaurant featured in international media:

1. PR is the most credible form of publicity

Journalists from newspapers and magazines only want to tell stories that they believe will interest their audience. There are no financial interests – the story is all that matters. That is why it is much more credible when the media talk about your restaurant than when you do it yourself on social media or on your website.

2. PR doesn´t cost much

It can be very expensive to work with marketing and advertisement for your restaurant. When your restaurant is featured in international media you can reach large audiences without paying for advertisement. PR coverage is called earned media as opposed to paid media because you have earned the publicity by telling a great story and maybe covering a meal.

3. PR lets you talk to new audiences

Working with international media lets you connect with a brand new audience that might fall in love with your restaurant and the stories it has to tell. Gastronomy is one of the main reasons for a lot of tourists to visit Copenhagen, so the audience is ready to be inspired for their next gastronomic adventure to our capital. Often articles will also feature high on Google searches and therefore have a long lifespan.

4. Publicity creates more publicity

If there is a lot of buzz about a restaurant other media will want to know what the buzz is all about. That is why publicity creates more publicity.

5. PR creates pride in your restaurant

Your restaurant depends on having the best chefs, waiters, et cetera. Media attention can raise your restaurant’s profile, install pride amongst the staff, and benefit recruitment.
